On Tuesday, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla came to Colorado to campaign with Senator Bennet and support Democratic candidates in Colorado. The day was centered around several events that focused on engagements with Colorado’s Latino community.
DENVER — On Tuesday, October 4, marked 35 days until the General Election, and Michael Bennet was out in full force to engage with voters. US Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) was also in Colorado for the day to campaign with Michael and remind voters what’s at stake in this election.
“I want to go back to a Senate majority that includes Michael Bennet…Who better to have by your side than Michael Bennet when it comes to uplifting children, who better to have the champion, the architect of the Child Tax Credit that was passed in the American Rescue Plan,” Senator Padilla expressed to a large crowd during a campaign event in Thornton on Tuesday.
While in Colorado, Senator Padilla participated in several events largely centered around engagements with Colorado’s Latino community. During his visit, he highlighted all the ways in which Michael has delivered or Coloradans in the Senate.
The first campaign event of the day was a Cafecito to discuss the upcoming midterm election. Senator Padilla and Michael met with members of Colorado’s Latino community to discuss the issues they’re facing and the work Michael and Senator Padilla are doing in the Senate to support their needs.
Senator Padilla and Michael met with a dozen members of the Latino business community to discuss the issues they’re facing as small business owners. The group discussed efforts to uplift Hispanic culture in Colorado and the importance of Senator Bennet and Senator Padilla’s campaign engagement with the community. They first stopped at Museo de Las Americas, the premier Latin American Art Museum in the Rocky Mountain region that has celebrated the artistic and cultural achievements of the Latino community for over three decades.
During the stop, Michael and Senator Padilla met with Claudia Moran-Pichardo, the museum’s executive director, who talked to them about the work of the museum and its engagement with Colorado’s Latino community.
As part of the business tour, the group stopped by El Taco de Mexico, a Latino-owned restaurant. The group finished the tour at El Noa Noa for a sit-down discussion about the Hispanic business community.
At the end of the day, Senator Padilla attended a meet and greet in Colorado’s 8th congressional district with Michael, State Rep. Kyle Mullica, and Yadira Caraveo, the Democratic nominee for CD8.
In his remarks to the crowd at the CD8 meet and greet, Michael said: “Everybody up here in one way or another talked about the American dream. There’s a reason for that. And that’s because it’s at risk. And the reason it’s at risk is because we’ve had an economy for 50 years in this country, and in this state, that’s worked really well for the top 10% of Americans and hasn’t worked very well for anybody else.”
Michael is running for re-election to continue working to build an economy that when it grows, it grows for everyone. Michael’s campaign was excited to have Senator Padilla in Colorado, and we look forward to continuing our work building support for Michael’s re-election across Colorado.
